“I Feel Torn”

The “I feel Torn” series focuses on the battle of self between using the world around us as a resource to be consumed juxtaposed by the desire to also protect the world around us. This struggle is found between the two extremes where I feel many people fall. Here I find myself, feeling torn between allowing myself to enjoy the world, using it for all its wonders, or protecting it by possibly giving up the very experience it is meant to provide.

The process behind the “I Feel Torn” series is made up of creating hand-drawn lithographs printed on a variety of Japanese papers. To further emphasize the torn aesthetic through each piece I have also ghost printed the image throughout some of the papers. By creating this change in value I can also point towards how each of these endangered animals is fading away from our world, many times due to the world being consumed. This consumption brings us full circle to how personally divided one can be between protecting the world or experiencing it for all it is.
